People. Â It’s been a good week so far. Â I’ve biked to campus the past two days, rather uneventfully I must say, and I ran a couple of errands yesterday. Â Here’s my ride from Tuesday.
“There and Back Again: A Cyclist’s Tale.”
Yesterday I biked to campus and back again and ran a few errands after. Â Here’s that ride:
The first of the two errands was the package store on Madison and McLean for some vino. Â (I do love those bike lanes on Madison, but lately I’ve become much more aware of the likelihood of getting doored. Â Got to keep my eyes open.) Â The second was to the home of a certain Kyle W. (last name omitted to protect anonymity) to borrow a certain piece of biking hardware, otherwise known as a trailer.
Boo-yah. Â Imma haul some sheet today, boyee. Â More on my trailer adventures later.
Also, don’t forget about tonight’s Tweed Ride!
People.  I missed the Mayor’s State of the City address on Monday – busy week, you know – but I knew from Kerry at the I Love Memphis blog that there was a highlight video from the speech.  So I finally got around to watching it last week and HOLY CRAP I’m totally in the video.  The video was shot last week – you might remember me mentioning it on the Biking in Memphis facebook page or in my twitter feed.  Good thing I did mention, because the only other cyclist who showed up besides Kyle and me was Ty from the awesome Living Loud in Midtown.  The videographer shot footage of the three of us riding in the bike lanes on Madison, then a long profile shot of me riding.  I have never liked my nose, but I approve of the video.
A combination bike shop and coffee shop? Â Yes, please!
Also, my friend Aaron sent me a link to the 2012 Report on Biking and Walking from the Alliance for Biking and Walking. Â I haven’t had a chance to read it, but it looks really interesting.
Star Wars biking shirts? Â Yes, please! Â (h/t Kyle)
My friend Adrian sent me this link about an Atlanta cycling advocate getting hit by a car while riding. Â He’s OK, but the article does mention that three-feet laws are not always enough to make roads safe for cyclists. Â We also need to educate the people.
Finally, I’ve been meaning to post this map of a commute ride from almost two weeks ago.
It was a good ride. Â I biked north from home to Central Animal Hospital to drop off some pet-related stuff – you don’t want to know – then through Tiger Lane, the Beltline community, and finally to campus. Â Then I biked home. Â I’ve been meaning to post this for a while, but it’s been busy up in here.
OK, be safe and stay dry – it’s raining in my corner of Memphis. Â See you soon.
