Shout-outs!
… Or is it “shouts-out?” Â Whatever. Â I was going to mention this in my post from earlier today but it so rapidly became lengthy that I didn’t want this to get buried at the end. Â Yesterday I was looking over the Google stats for my site when I noticed that two other blogs had linked to mine. Â How cool is that?! Â (Answer: very cool.)
The first was the Commercial Appeal’s Memphis blogroll. Â When I saw that, I was really impressed and a bit honored, until I actually saw their roll. Â Yes, there are numerous very popular and successful blogs listed, ones that I am truly flattered to be listed with, but then there are a few that no longer exist. Â So while I am very happy to be included on their list (and a little baffled, since I only started writing this blog a few months ago), they need to check their links.
But what made me most happy was a shout-out from the good people at Gotta Be Gritty. Â (Full disclosure: I’ve never actually met any of them, so I’m assuming they are in fact good people. Â But they play bike polo, so they must be good people, right?) Â Again, I have no idea how they heard about my blog, but I really appreciate the props.
Thanks to all, and please keep reading.
Hey Doug, thanks for the shout.
I think I came across your blog from someone liking an article on facebook, quite probably Anthony Siracusa. As a fellow commuter, I thought it was fun reading on your car-free escapades.
And hey, you should come play bike polo! We play every Wednesday and Sunday at Bluff City Sports on Cooper near Young at 7 pm til whenever (usually between 10 and 11). If you’re a righty, something with flat or riser bars and the brakes levers switched (or just left alone if you’re a lefty) would probably be best, but someone would probably be happy to let them use their bike for a game or two if ya just wanna try it out.
It may seem a bit daunting at first, but it’s really fun once you start to get the hang of it.
Hey Brett. I should definitely give bike polo a try sometime. Anthony’s told me about it as well, so I might just come down to the parking lot soon. Once the semester is over, that is. Thanks for the invite.
